Lyrics for For Eternity – Adon Olam

October 6th, 2010

13. For Eternity
Adon Olam (4:19)

One of the most universally familiar hymns in Jewish liturgy, usually sung at the end of Sabbath services.
It depicts the cosmic aspect of eternity and all inclusiveness.

Adon Olam asher malach b’terem kol y’tseer nivra,
L’ayt na-asa b’cheftso kol, azay melech sh’mo nikra
V’acharey kichlot ha-kol l’vado yimloch nora
V’hu haya, v’hu hoveh, v’hu yihyeh b’tifara.

Oh Lord, God, King of the Universe, You are the One that blessed creation first.
Oh Lord, hear my cry, You are my guide, without fail I know You’re always by my side.
With no beginning, without an end, when I have You there’s no need to pretend.
When I sleep and as I rise, when I’m with You I know I’ll survive.

V’hu echad v’ayn sheynee, l’hamsheel lo l’hachbeera:
B’lee raysheet b’lee tachleet, v’lo ha-oz v’ha misra.
V’hu aylee v’chai goalee, v’tsur chevlee b’ayt tsara.

He was, He is, and always shall be. He was, He is, for eternity.
He was, He is, and always shall be. He was, He is, for eternity.

V’hu nee-see umanos see, m’nat kosee b’yom ekra.
B’yado afkeed ruchee, b’ayt eeshan v’a-ee-ra: V’im ruchee g’veeyatee, adonay lee v’lo ee-ra.

Oh Lord, God, King of the Universe, You are the One that blessed creation first.
Oh Lord, hear my cry, You are my guide. Without fail I know You’re always by my side.
With no beginning, without an end, when I have You there’s no need to pretend.
When I sleep and as I rise, when I’m with You I know I’ll survive.

B’meekdasho tagel nafshee mesheecheynoo teeshlach mira v’az nasheer b’bet kodshee.
Amen, Amen, shema nora.

Lyrics for Our Father, Our King – Avinu Malkaynu

October 6th, 2010

11. Our Father, Our King
Avinu Malkeynu (5:48)

Our Father, Our King, be gracious to us and answer us. This prayer is said during the High Holy Days, expressing humility and repentance for our sins of the past year; asking that we and our loved ones be inscribed in the Good Book of Life for the coming year.

Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu,
Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu ki eyn banu ma’asim.
Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed,
Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed v’hoshi-eynu.

Pardon us when we’re wrong, Our Father, Our King.
We’re trying to be strong, for You this song we sing.
Make this year brand new, forgive the mistakes we made.
Open our eyes and our hearts so our mouths can sing.

Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu,
Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu ki eyn banu ma’asim.

Inscribe us in the Book of Life.
My mother, my father, my wife, my children don’t forget.
To show us forgiveness, we really want to be good.
Help us in our ways, like we know we should, each and every day.

Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed.
Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed V’hoshi-eynu.

We accept the meaning of the words You say,
Renew us for another year today,
Take our hand, show us the way, as we pray.

Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu,
Avinu Malkeynu choneynu va’aneynu ki eyn banu ma’asim.
Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed,
Asay imanu tzedakah va’khesed v’hoshi-eynu.

Lyrics for How Beautiful It Is – Hinay Matov

October 6th, 2010

10. How Beautiful It Is
Hinay Matov (4:52)

How good and pleasant it is when brothers, sisters, friends and neighbors can dwell together in unity.
Surely the music is good and sweet when friends feel oneness.

Hinay matov oo-mana-eem shevet acheem gam yachad (x2)
Hinay matov shevet acheem gam yachad (x2)

Unity, for you and me, set the the people free, gotta believe.
Beautifully, we fly so free, and you will see, what we can be.
Don’t you agree?  It’s gotta be, plant the seed, power of you and me.
My family, brotherly, you’re feeling me.
We gotta make it through somehow, we came too far to turn back now.
This is the world that we live in, How Beautiful It Is.

Hinay matov oo-mana-eem shevet acheem gam yachad (x2)
Hinay matov shevet acheem gam yachad (x2)

How good and how pleasant it is to be together in unity.
We’re better together, we’re one family.
Brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends, this time together make amends.
People we know, hope to meet, a stranger on the street.
How beautiful it is when we dwell as one, come together, with unity and love, love.
We got to rise up, together in harmony. Open our eyes up, united, we are free.

We Are One Lyrics

Lyrics for We Are One – V’ahavta

October 6th, 2010

9. We Are One
V’ahavta (4:48)

A proclamation of unity with God telling us to love God with all our heart, soul and might; to remember and teach these very important words to our children throughout the day; and to carry the commandments with us, always living in a thoughtful and conscious way.

V’ahavta eit adonai elohekha b’khol l’vav’kha, uv’khol nafsh’kha, uv’khol m’odekha.
V’hayu had’varim ha-eleh, asher anokhi m’tzavkha ha-yom al l’vavekha.

We are all connected, and we’re protected,
by the same One. You know we are one.
I hold my head up high walking down the street,
Smiling at every one I meet.
The Torah in my heart makes me complete.
What a godsend, Baruch Hashem.

V’ahavta eit adonai elohekha b’khol l’vav’kha, uv’khol nafsh’kha, uv’khol m’odekha.                                         V’shinantam l’vanekha, v’dibarta bam, b’shivt’kha
b’vetekha, uv’lekht’kha vaderekh, uv’shokhb’kha uv’kumekha.

May the mitzvot and the tradition stay with you 24/7, in your house, and down in your soul.
Pass it along, keep your children whole.
They will learn to live a mindful way, with good intentions every day.
Hold it with you forever and always.  Let us say amen, Baruch Hashem.

V’ahavta eit adonai elohekha b’khol l’vav’kha, uv’khol nafsh’kha, uv’khol m’odekha.                                             Uk’shartam l’ot al yadekha, v’hayu l’totafot bein einekha. Ukh’tavtam al m’zuzot beitekha uvish’arekha.

We are all connected, and we’re protected,
by the same One. You know we are one.
I hold my head up high walking down the street,
Smiling at every one I meet.
The Torah in my heart makes me complete.
What a godsend, Baruch Hashem.

Meditation – Sh’ma (Instrumental)

October 6th, 2010

7. Meditation
Sh’ma (1:58)

The Sh’ma is considered the most important part of the prayer service of Judaism, and its twice-daily recitation a mitzvah (religious commandment).  It is traditional for Jews to say the Shema as their last words.  Parents teach their children to say it before they go to sleep at night.

Lyrics for For Everything New – Shehecheyanu

October 6th, 2010

7. For Everything New
Shehecheyanu (4:32)

This blessing to God expresses our appreciation for allowing us to live for this moment when a new thing is happening. It is said during new and remarkable experiences and to celebrate special occasions.
This blessing has been recited for nearly 2000 years.

Baruch atah Adonai Elohaynu melech ha-olam.

She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.
She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.

This moment feels so brand new. For everything around me I give thanks to You.
The future is before me, the sun is shining on me, the fruit is ripening on the trees.

She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.
She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.

It feels like the first time, this love I feel inside.
Life is so amazing with You by my side.
Standing on a mountaintop, the world turning around me, around me, around me.
At this point in time, there’s no place I’d rather be.
Than at this moment with You, it’s meant to be
At the present day, so blessed in every way.
Lift your voice and sing it too, for everything new, for everything new.

She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.
She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.
She-heh-cheyanu v’kee-y’manu V’Higee-anu lazman hazeh.

Lyrics for It Would Have Been Enough – Dayeinu

October 6th, 2010

6. It Would Have Been Enough
Dayeinu (4:18)

This popular song from the Passover seder is over 1000 years old. Dayeinu means “it would have been enough,” and is about being grateful to God for the many gifts bestowed upon us.
Retelling the story of our escape from slavery is a yearly tradition.

It would have been enough if You set us free, led us out of slavery.
It would have been enough to part the sea, You got us there with dry feet.
Wandering for so long You gave us strength to live on.
Even though we had it rough, through all the hard times, it would have been enough.

Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu
Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu

It would have been enough to lead us to the promised land,
to let us to grow oranges in the sand.
You gave us the Holy day of rest, freedom for the oppressed.
It would have been enough, we are blessed. We are so grateful for all You’ve done.
Our Prayers have been answered and a new day has begun.
Feeding us manna, for years as we wander, telling the story again and again.

Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu
Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu Dayeinu

Where do we go from here? To live in Your way, Your holy way, Mashiach is near.
To keep our traditions through generations, finding cures for disease with modern day technologies.

It would have been enough, to live by the Torah.
It would have been enough, dancing the hora.
It would have been enough, the life of a sabra.
It would have been enough, for all of the soldiers.

Lyrics for I Remember You – Kaddish

October 6th, 2010

5. I Remember You
Kaddish (4:33)

Saying the Kaddish denotes the ritual of mourning the loss of a loved one. The Mourners’ Kaddish does not mention death at all, but instead praises God. The people we love never die; they are always alive in our hearts.

I’ve been praying three times a day, since you passed away.
I remember you, remember you, remember you.
Feeling the empty space, I see your smiling face. I remember you, remember you.
Yitgadal ve-yit-ka-dash sh’may rabba, b’alma dee vera chir-ootay.

As long as I live, you will live too, cause you’re a part of me and I’m a part of you.
At the rising of the sun and when the day is done,
I’ll be praising you, your memory will live on. V’eem-roo Amayn

I’ve been praying three times a day, since you passed away.
I remember you, remember you, remember you.
Feeling the empty space, I see your smiling face. I remember you, remember you.
Y’hay sh’may rabba miva-rach l’olam ool-al-may al-maya.

You’d be so proud of me and all that I’ve done,
and what I’ve become with your inspiration.
My link to history, I got an angel watching over me. I remember you.

I’ve been praying three times a day, since you passed away.
I remember you, remember you, remember you.
Feeling the empty space, I see your smiling face. I remember you, remember you.

Yitba-rach, v’yishta-bach, v’yitpa’ar, v’yitro-mom,
v’yitna-say, v’yit-hadar, v’yit-aleh, v’yitha-lal.

Now there’s an empty chair at the table.
All the time we spent together I’m so grateful.
I remember all the things that you said, to keep my dreams and aspirations,
and always to look ahead. I remember you, remember you.
Y’hay sh’lama rabba meen sh’maya, V’cha-yeem alaynu v’al kol Yisrael. V’eem-roo Amayn.

Lyrics for I Believe – Ani Ma’amin

October 6th, 2010

4. I Believe
Ani Ma’amin (5:23)

We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt. When the Jews escaped from slavery, they had to take a leap into the unknown. We often feel trapped and are afraid to go past our comfort zone because we don’t know what our life will become.
The Hasidic teaching is to have the faith to break through the barriers of what is holding us back.

We can make it if we really try. We got the will to stay alive, cross over the sea.
I’m wondering where it all will lead, I take a chance and then I’ll see. In Hashem I believe.

Leave what I know already, free myself from mental slavery, move out of my own way.
I take a chance and live my dream. Avadim hahyenu l’paroh b’mitzrayim.
To a place I’ve never been before, I know my life can be so much more. I’m ready to take the leap.
I can’t go on living this way or wait till I’m old and grey, give me courage I pray.

We can make it if we really try. We got the will to stay alive, cross over the sea.
I’m wondering where it all will lead, I take a chance and then I’ll see. In myself I believe.

Even if I’m stuck, I will not give up.
I’m reaching for the top and I will never stop. Remove all the barriers and boundaries.
I was feeling trapped before, there’s no need anymore.
I’m looking toward the future and what’s in store, for me for me.
Go ahead and leave your home, don’t be afraid of the unknown, break out of your comfort zone.
You can be what you want when opportunity knocks. Avadim hahyenu l’paroh b’mitzrayim.

In Hashem ani ma’amin.
